I don't know how Edmund juggled all those identities and stories. I love the evolution of Edmund's character from innocent and naive to worldly, educated and cunning. There is just so much planning involved that A) I would have loved to see the outlines that Dumas made and B) I don't know how anyone can read an abridged version. There are so many details between the events and the characters' connections. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be? Revenge at all costs! Any additional comments? The length of the novel can be intimidating but it is so engaging, and the prose is so poetic. Harrison’s other performances before? How does this one compare? It did get confusing at times and I had to rewind a little bit to listen to it again. I didn’t realize how many characters you had to keep track of and what they did to Edmon. I had forgotten a lot of it except for the gist of the book. The last time I read this book was when I was in college which was many, many years ago. There are 3 audiobook versions of this book on that you can listen to for FREE. Listened to count like 5 times but that hothead got on my nerves so bad I returned the book. At that point I discovered the Pocket Books version is an ABRIDGED version with about 70 chapters. At about chapter 30, I was hooked on the story and reading reviews and doing research on it. Since the author of this book is long gone, my review will be about the narrator of this great classic. Based on the recommendation of so many people here, I’m ready to jump in. I am reviewing the Pocket Books Enriched Classics version of the novel The Count of Monte Cristo.
